Default Stupid Question

I have an 86 L corvette and I was wondering if any of you guys ever oper your hood at car shows, The 2 little lights on the inside of your hood go on automaticlly as soon as the hood is fully open. Do any of you know how to turn them off just for a car show, any wires I have to pull. Could you also show me a pic off the wire.

Thanks Guys

Pull the fuse. I believe it should be in the fuse block in front of the drivers side front tire. Not sure on your year.

If you follow the wire that comes down from the lights on each side of the car I believe you will see where there is a connector in front of the tire wells. My memory is not that great but I think that is where they were on the 87 I used to own. I now own a 96 and it has a fuse in front of the driver's side tirewell that you can pull out to disable the lights. I don't think the earlier cars had that fuse though. It was March of '03 when I disconnected the 87's and that is an eternity for this old fart's memory!

I spliced a switch into the wires so I can turn them on and off when I please.

That's a great idea. I've just been pulling the fuse in the fuse box when I work on the car, but then I have to re-program radio stations. Guess that wasn't such a dumb question afterall!

Same here. Two switches, actually.

I never turn 'em on.

I never turn the switch on either

I cheated, I bought a switch kit from Gordon Killebrew...I know radio shack...but I hate touching the wiring on this car

Thanks guys it worked, just wondering if I could keep the plugs out perminently with out getting other side effects like driving lights, or day time runners, or battery lowering

Thanks

Thanks
You can leave them unplugged with no problems. I would coat the connections with some diaelectric grease though just to keep water from sitting in them and corroding them out in case you change your mind later.

Same here. I've never needed those lights. That's not to say the car never needs work though, the hood stays open for weeks at a time.

I broke down and bought the switch kit from Mid America. It runs a small wiring harness from passenger side to drivers side with a toggle switch in the drivers front well. Click/click, on and off any time I need them...like night shows.

Just go to home depot or Lowels and get those roll switches that you use for lamps, put them inline on the light and bingo, on and off, about $2.00 total cost
