Got some great feedback on my radiator earlier, thanks. I just purchased the car and as I turned the key nothing happened, I turned it again and I heard a click, I turned it a third time and the engine fired right up. It doesn't happen all the time, just every so often. I checked the battery terminals and they are good and tight. The volt meter doesn't show any signs of power loss.
Sounds like your starter is not turning the flywheel...could be on it's way out. You can test the volts going to it and make sure the connection is tight.
I have experienced this on my 95. I turn the key and hear a click like the starter got jammed. Usually on the second turn it starts up. That hasn't happened in awhile, though.
Even though they look good, remove your battery cables (neg first) and clean the cable lugs, bolts, and battery terminals until they are bright, then replace (neg last). Starters draw 100+ amps and require a low resistance battery connection. If it still does it, measure the battery terminal voltage with the start sw in crank positon. Batt voltage shouldn't fall below 9.0 volts or the battery is discharged (terminal voltage no load below 12.0 volts), cable connection is poor, or the battery is at the end of its life. Another thing possible is the copper contacts on the start solenoid. At the end of the start solenoid stroke, 2 copper contacts are forced together which supplies current to the starter motor and with use these contacts get pitted and burned and don't make reliable connection. Many attempts at cranking will usually bang away some carbon and the starter will crank. You can take your starter to an auto electrical shop and they can replace the contacts, or you can do it too or just replace the starter.
Definitely the starter, I had same thing on my 94. You can fix just this part or it is recommended to rebuild the whole starter, It was 2 contacts in the solenoid. I was quoted 139.00 by a local rebuilder to do the whole thing. I have heard its better to rebuild the original rather then buy an after market.
