Not exactly C4 related but a recent thread regarding getting ticketed for lack thereof got me wondering which states require you to display a front license plate and which do not? Not to exclude anyone, how about Canadian provinces and/or other countries alltogether? I know Florida doesn't require one (they only issue one plate anyway) and Illinois does (or did up until four years ago when I moved down here). TIA...
UPDATE:
NO states:
FL
PA
YES states
IL
NY

Massachusettes requires it if you have the newer style plates I have both plates but i refuse to put the front one on. The only problems i get is during the yearly state inspection and for that i just zip tie it to the air dam
Your lucky .i get stopped all the time for both the corvette and firebird , three times by the same trooper ,he has an area he covers where i have to go everyday !! Already paid two fines so i put the front plate on the firebird !!

I read somewhere that West Virginia issues 2 plates but only requires you to display one on the rear...
Kinda interested in that since I might be living in WV in about 2-3 years...
Kalifornia sux, 2 plate state there... AZ where I'm from only requires one...
I've also been in VA off and on for the last year... I see lots of people carrying the front plate on the dash instead of mounted... I mean I see it a lot, enough that I'm wondering if the cops don't mind it here...

Front Plates
Maryland (MD) requires a front license plate be displayed, so I do. It's the law, and as a rule I generally don't do anything to call attention to myself from law enforcement. It's just a license plate for chrissakes.
I have both plates on my Corvette here in Virginia because, as mentioned earlier in this thread, it's the law. But I have a friend who refused to put the front plate on his C5 in Virginia and he got a ticket.
Virginia also is one of the few states that bans radar detectors. I have another friend who was obeying all laws while driving through a small town and two cops were parked by the road and they picked up on his radar detector and came after him. By law, it's points against the license and the detector can be confiscated. But the cop was nice enough not to take his detector. Just told him to put it in the trunk.
In Kansas, if you have a "personalized" plate, they give you 2. One only is required to be installed the other one has a sticker on it that says "Front plate only not valid". Don't ask why they send two out, but it looks neat on the wall in my office!
PA guy here. If my state does resort to front plates, the powers that be can go pound sand. I ain't doing it. We'll see about the enforcement end of it (IMO its a "*****" ticket).
Oregon and Washington both require front plates. I have mine on, but only because it was on when I bought the car. About half the vettes I see have no front plate on them and I have never heard of anyone getting ticket for it. Friend of mine from Wa. got stopped in Or in his C5 for slightly over speed limit(got no ticket) but did get verbal warning about front plate. He had the plate in the back and just showed it to the trooper. SAVE THE WAVE

I’ve been driving mine for about a year without a front plate and I’ve noticed a few others(Vetts) with out theirs. It’s my guess that the police will probably not stop you just for not having a front plate. However, if you are stopped for speeding or some other traffic infraction, they will most likely cite you for the missing plate. No excuses! With this in mind, I tend to behave myself more when tempted to put my foot in it.
