A huge thank you, Rocco, for posting this link. Now I'm sure I did the right thing by deciding to remove the K&N from my car in favor of an OEM AC Delco element.
I would expect it to have a different slant; it's the K&N website!!!
It's also possible that, by picking and choosing the precise models of filters, any result you want could be achieved, i.e. you can make any brand of filter come out on top.
Could we do the same testing that the Duramax guys did, only using the C4 part number filter?? Anyone want to sponsor this, or have we already made up our minds?
As for myself, I think I'll put another AC Delco in the Red Assassin when the time comes.
Yep this went around a while back. Convinced me to try some test of my own... hence I now have my stock air filter housing and an AC Delco paper filter. K&N is now buried in the dump and I have a cut filter housing in the bag it came in!

i'm not saying the K&N is bad, but for the price it definitely made me reconsider. Besides a factory replacement air filter has got to be safe for the engine or they wouldnt put it there in the first place.
Flow more and more dirt, or flow less air with less dirt. Pick your poison!
I'm not sure about the dirt claim:
If small particles of dirt or dust do get thru, where is it gonna go ???
The way I see it: Thru the plenum down the runners into the combustion chamber burnt up and thru the exhaust.

Bingo!...we have a winner...what I want to know is how many folks have had problems using a K & N?...does anyone even know one person who can attribute any problems they had to the K & N filter?...
Until I see actual "real world" proof that the K & N causes problems I'm staying with more flow...

Its all marketing propaganda, I can't see any long term problems from using a K&N.

I MAY BE WRONG
these are very small pieces of dirt, my guess, they get vapourized when the plug fires.
I will reoil my K&N. In 115k miles, it has done no harm.

My experience with K&N is that they overstate cleaning durations. If you are in an area that is dusty clean it more often. That keeps it flowing.
I use them on my SUV and motorcycles and am pleased. Just don't believe that 50K Clean them often.
