I've come to the conclusion that a lot of people have ZR1 wheels cause its one of the few that will actually fit an '84-'87 corvette. Most wheels have a higher offset like +54mm or something while the early C4's have +38mm. I've come to understand that offset is nothing more than how far the wheel sticks out off the hub. As long as the bolt pattern is the same, there is no reason it shouldnt fit, provided its not like huge 20" wheels or something.
So heres what I think, I can go buy some chrome C6 wheels, lets say 17x11's that have a +56mm offset and they WILL fit my '85, BUT they will be tucked under the wheel well without the aid of spacers. Is this correct?

Just remember that offset is ont everything. Also width of the rim is important. For example, i have 18" rims in my corvette -87, and offset is 25. But rim width is 9" against my stock 9,5", so new rim goes 7mm outer from wheelwell than stock.
also, rim size is not important. 21" rim fits as good as 16" rim, if wheel is correct. When you use bigger rim, you must use lower profile tire.
By the way, there is alternatives to zr1 rims for corvette -85-87.

I understand what your saying and have taken all that into consideration. The only thing holding me back was the offset. I'm only going with 17", possibly 18" wheels, nothing crazy like 20's. The wheels i'm looking at fit '88 and up, so it will fit my '85 as well.
