abbreviations list?
Where is a list of abreviations so I can figure out what folks are talking about? What's a DIC, SES, CTS, CTV... Sorry for being dumb but I just need to see the real name at least once. Arlon

DIC is the Driver Information Center. That's the info that lights up such as "Service Engine Soon" when you have a problem.
Others will chime in with more. Good question!
My favorite is LMFAO which means, Laugh My Freakin **** Off.

Fortunately I'm only behind on the Corvette ones. My 85 LTD doesn't have half the abbreviations in it...

CTS = Coolant Temperature Sensor. Sometimes called ECT (Engine Coolant Temp sensor)
Dunno about CTV. Don't recall ever seeing that one before
Others you will see here include:
ECM = Engine Control Module (computer -- became PCM in '94 when it also began to control shifting of auto trans)
KS = Knock Sensor
TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
MAF = Mass AirFlow sensor
MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor
VSS = Vehicle Speed Sensor
IAT = Inlet (or Intake) Air Temperature sensor
O2S = Oxygen Sensor
IP = Instrument Panel
EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation
AIR = Air Injection Reaction (or something close to that - system that pumps air into the exhaust manifolds to burn off leftover hydrocarbons)
There are plenty more, but these are what are coming to mind for me as I type. Does this help?
Be well,
SJW

A couple more have come to mind:
VATS = Vehicle Anti-Theft System. Uses a resistor pellet in the ignition key.
PKE = Passive Keyless Entry.

I believe on later yr C4's it became UTD but I can't say for certain as I'm not as familiar with the early year models.
Universal Theft Deterrent
I mention this because looking up an issue with VATS in the FSM will not yield anything, however, UTD will.
FSM = Factory Service Manual.
Actually one needs to sit down with each major chapter in the FSM to pull out all the acronyms as each chapter has it's own set.

Helped enough that I just printed it off, and taped it to my monitor..
Didn't fix my idle issue but it sure helped me understand what some other people were posting about. Thanks. Arlon

I always liked CRS - Can't remember Sh*t.
This is what I have everyday.
Take care, it will become easier as you go.

And who could forget Good Morning, Vietnam :
Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Thanks!! I've been trying to figure that one out for a while. Of course I refused to ask for the answer.

These two I learned pretty quick in Special Forces, and they're certainly appropriate in a Corvette forum. The only difference here is that you have to fix the problem with your checkbook instead of calling in an airstrike or artillery.

Some of those just don't seem like sanctioned GM terms
