I have had an ongoing problem over the past 2 years of my battery going dead. I dont drive the car that often, but would take it out every weekend or so. Every time I went to drive it the battery would be dead. While installing new seat covers, I noticed that the door locks were making noises. They work fine from the switch, but with the car just sitting, you would hear the door locks move. I am guessing that there is a short somwhere that affects the doorlocks. I have pulled the fuse over a month ago, and the battery is still good.
Any ideas where I should start looking for this one.
Also I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but the gas gauge hasnt worked in a year.
a coworker said to clean the contacts in the door lock switches. Sounds like a start.
Contacts are sticking,so you have to remove the section that holds the button, and change it out, they are cheap, and check the wires for shorts, might be pinched inside the door somewhere,or where the wires go thru the door to the car....
Does your vehicle have the Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) system? If so do you leave the key fob in the car or near the car with the system active?
The reason I ask is that I had the same problem with my 96 vert. When I would have the PKE system active and the key fob within 10 feet of the car any movement from the fob would cause the door locks to cycle.
Try this - disengage the PKE system and see if that solves the problem. It worked on mine and you can reactivate the system with a simple push of the button.
Good luck!!
