So I went to pull my dash off to replace a couple bulbs, when I noticed I cant pull mu headlight **** off. It looks likes there was a crack and then someone glued it on. Is there any way to pull out the whole **** and arm? thanks

the **** and (square) shaft is one assembly. it comes off together as one piece. haven't had mine out in a while, but it seems to me there is some sort of spring clip that the square shaft goes through. i think you take a very small screwdriver and push the on the edge of the spring-clip to relieve the tension. hard to explain without pics... hope this helps -
but dont you have to pull the dash off to undo that clip? Im not able to get the dash off with the plastic headlight **** on, am I doing something wrong?
On my car the **** pulls off, but you must look at the ****, there is a small metal tab to depress. Look around at the back of the **** there is a slot in the plastic **** that allows access to the tab. I think you could also turn the metal pole the the **** is on and detach it that way, I changed out my blubs recently and the **** on mine worked fine like that.

The **** itself is held on to the shaft by a spring clip inside the ****. Pulling it off breaks this clip sometimes. Its hard to get something behind the **** to compress the clip,so I just pulled it out . On the underside of the switch however is a button that catches in the slot of the shaft when installing it. You can get to the button if you take the top of the dash off by reaching underneath the switch and depressing it. Check out corvette central, they have pictures of the parts there

I got the one off on my 87 with the help of a tip I got here. They told me to use a baby flat blade screw driver to depress the small spring steel V clip toward the **** and pull on the **** at the same time. Worked great. Now, you may have had yours glued on by a previous owner. If they used something like JB Weld then you might have to break it off. You can buy a new one with the proper clip from Corvette Central or a used one from www.vette2vette.com
Good luck. Let us hear how you did!
