Default Deck imprint from convertible top

I recently purchased my first Corvette, a '92 convertible, and everything is great. However, I would like to remove the imprint that is left on the rear deck, from where the convertible top seals, without removing any paint. What are the best products to do this? Thank you.

You might try some rubbing compound by hand, i wouldn't use a buffer thou. most of the corvette parts places, (Mid America, Corvette America) sell a static cling laser cut piece that go's on the deck lid to protect it, i plan on picking one up to use when i have my hard top on.

Good luck on removing the marring that you are seeing....I have been wondering how to do that for the past 5+ years. Rubbing compound will not touch it, and in my opinion it is a design flaw on the part of GM designers. From the factory, the weatherstripping rest directly on the decklid paint and does nothing but rub back and forth across the paint as the car flexes while being driven.....yeah, that's real smart.

Same applies to both the hard and soft top. The only remedy that I can see is to have the decklid repainted and then to religiously use the static cling piece that many of the aftermarket vendors sell.

Thanks. I'll give compounding a try and look into the static cling piece.
