The emissions program in STL is state mandated so there CAN BE NO CORRUPTION according to them. None the less there is no way around the program. They instituted a new law that cars 1996 and newer are OBDII scanned ONLY and the IS240 test is no longer valid. With that said, my car failed the OBDII scan with a P1661 code while it blew clean on the rollers. Today I find out it was because a DIC board was burned out. DNR is getting a really nasty letter on this one
Yeah that really sucks I'm glad that I live in a state and city where there are no vehicle inspections, although it does make for the occassional site of some vehicles driving around while you see them and think WTF is that thing doing driving on the road. But then there are people like you and I and most here on the Forum that are die-hard car enthusiasts and know that our vehicles are safer then lots out on the road, and that is basically what I thought the majority of the inspections were for, yeah somwhat for emissions factor too, but we all want our rides to perform best, and in my opinion when they do perform correctly they are not giving out such bad emissions, so...?

Sorry to hear that, dude. Is it any easy fix? I just had my Vette inspected and being a '95, it's still subject to a visual but not the state computer. I told the guy (garage owner) that the car was modified and he stated everything still had to be there. I said nothing and opened the hood and hoped for the best. No AIR, no EGR but it does have cats. I don't think he had a clue as to what he was looking at. After a while, he just shut the hood and gave me my sticker! The good thing is, is that the headers are AIR delete so there's nothing blocked off. And since the AIR pump on these cars wasn't wasn't mounted on the engine to begin with, it really doesn't look like anything's gone. Also, the AFPR and the #4 hose to the fuel pressure gauge tend to hide the EGR block-off plate.

It wasn't the SES light was it??? I think all states get bent out of shape when that one doesn't work... What other indicator light would they even look at???

Yeah pretty much. I am registering the car in Pike County to avoid the emissions... although I got the car fixed today. Now it is solely based on principal. Yes it was the SES light that was out, but that failed the OBDII scan. It still passed the IS240 scan, but the tail pipe sniff isn't "valid" on 96 and newer cars anymore.
