I have a 93 40th and my bose radio is really messed up i really wanna just replace it and get a nice new eclipse cd3000 and it lights up in orange but do you think it will take to much away from the vette and look odd in there i just cant make up my mind please help me decide?
I just finished pulling the whole Bose setup out of my 91 Coupe and replaced it with an Alpine head unit and new Alpine speakers all around. It was a lot of work, but WELL worth it. The sound blows the Bose away and I only spent $400. The Alpine lights up in white, but still looks good.
i have a aftermarket pioneer deck installed but my speakers are still bose and those speakers have their own crappy amps how hard is it for me to put new speakers in?
Well i have decided to go witht he Eclipse Cd3000 hu, take out the front speakers and put custom box but make it still look stock some 6x9 eclipse 4 ways, and for the back take out the whole bose unit and put new mdf board in to use orginal screw holes so i dont have to make new one in the body and use JL 10s give it a little kick with the top down and try and hid the amps and subs so it still looks all stock waht do you guys thank of that.

I thank you have the rite stuff and that what you do will look cool and sound great with top off and on if you get doen with it and you dont liek it you can always do something different but most here will probably say okay because you done the rite thign.
And beyond that, you will have done the right thing, too!
Actually, it's totally up to you. HOwever, the comment about keeping all the old parts, well, just do it. Put it in a box, label it, seal it, and put it somewhere with "old car parts".
As to beating the old, Blose system (not a typo, just a play on words), it surely wouldn't take much. Never, has such an ordinary system, had such a sterling reputation, with no sound quality to back up the claim.
I also want to replace my useless Bose junk. I just want an AM/FM receiver and some simple speakers and an easy do-it-myself installation. Without tearing out the old receiver.
I did the same thing you are planning. I pulled out all the Blose stuff and put it away in case the next owner ever wants to re-install it.
I made custom, wedge shaped, speaker enclosures for the front out of plywood to mount my Alpine 5 1/4 inch speakers to. In the rear I removed the speakers and amps from the stock Bose housing, but kept the housing in place for use with the new Alpine 6 1/2 inch speakers. I then built custom speaker mounting plates that are shaped like the original speaker grills and mount in the existing screw holes in the Bose housing where the orignal speaker grills went in.
I re-wired for all four speakers, covered all the custom enclosures with black felt and mounted the Alpine speaker with the grills that were supplied with them...they look real nice. I also used the Metra install kit for the head unit. If you're interested, I can send you a couple of pics, but I need your e-mail address. I can't post pics on the forum. I'd like to post them on the forum, so everyone can see them, but I don't think I have posting rights.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see pics of how you did this. You can upload your pics onto Photobucket.com, and link to them here. Just copy the text that appears in the "Img" line below each photo and paste it into your post here, and the pics will show up in your post. It's very easy.
