Maybe unrealated but after using throttle body/cardbie cleaner, my high idle is very high. After car warms up, normal idle is still ok.
At engine start, engine rpm momentarity shows 4,800! It then only drops to 1,100 - this is enough to drive the car allong without the accelerater once at driving speed.
This infact maybe normal for other cars and I only am experiencing this now as I have cleaned the throttle area.....
If not, did I knock something in the process or get cleaner onto something I shouldn't have?
or, again, as it was very dirty, maybe the last owner set the high idle wrong and now that it is clean, it may need adjusting....
Did you unplug any sensors (TPS, CTS, or even the IAC on the bottom of the TB)? Did you take the TB off to clean it or leave it on? Is there any codes showing (SES light on)? Sounds like the TPS may have gotten bumped and is out of range. Sounds like you need to reset minimal idle.
I don't think I knocked off any sencors but I will check.
The minimum idle is correct once the engine warms up - do you mean adjusting the high idle setting?

Sounds like the Throttle Position Sensor could have been knocked as RRT already mentioned, but it could have even gotten wet inside if the connector's loose or you unplugged it. I did the same today with some valvoline syn power cleaner, but made sure I didnt jack up the TPS when the TB shroud was off. Before you readjust it, pull out the connector plug for the TPS and make sure the inside where the connector prongs are in the TPS...are clean and dry. Some carb cleaner in there wouldnt sit well for the signals it needs Im sure. Something wet in there might even be jackin up the signal. I've had some problems with idles before, blown into that little prong and fixed them without resetting or replacing the unit on my '90.

If the TPS got bumped and moved the TPS voltage could be higher than need be and this will make a high idle. I mentioned the CTS because it sends a resistance signal to the ECM that decreases as engine temp increases to control A/F mixture. Probably not the CTS if it is just a high idle and no drivability problems. But I would check the voltage setting at the TPS..should be .54v. Any time you adjust the idle screw on the TB the TPS has to be adjusted as well. Make sure the connections are good on the TB sensors and feel the IAC to see if it is ticking which means it is moving inside...while the engine running. If you just sprayed into the TB some of the carbon drainage could have gotten in the IAC air passage and is causing problems. I would remove the IAC after removing the TB and clean in there as well. If a new gasket is needed you will have to make on from gasket material or buy a new IAC to the gasket as no where I have found sells the IAC gasket seperately. If the SES light is on when the engine is running, check for any codes that may be stored to send you in the right direction. Sounds like a TPS problem, possibly carbon gunked IAC and passage. A scan tool would also show sensor operation and show what is out of range. After the engine and/or exhaust reaches a certain temp the ECM goes into Closed loop mode and the O2 sensor mainly contols A/F mixture.
If you need to reset minimal idle there are many write up's here and doing a search should turn up some results. Vader86's website has a good one.
