I got to thinking this morning on the way to work, at 4:30 am its a wonder I'm not dreaming instead of thinking , that before I bought this, my first corvette, that every 1.5 to 2 years I was trading in my car for a newer one. But since I have had my 96 Corvette I never seem to lose that tremendious feeling everytime I walk out of the house to get into my car. It's still a joy to get in and drive . I can't ever remember having a car that instilled such pleasure and enjoyment to drive and the best thing is that there isn't much on the highway that can outrun her much less keep up. Man these cars are awesome  !!!
Do any of you feel this way or am I just crazy  ?
You got it. When the car you walk out to get in no longer gives you a charge, sell it. The day I parked my Firehawk near a building, instead of out in the back 40, I knew it was time to sell. This car grows on me more and more. It's pretty standard, nothing rare (Although only 1600 some 6 speeds were built in 89..lol). But man, I love this car!!
I remember when I first drove a Vette. Before I liked them and thought they were beautiful, but I had no idea what it was like to drive them.
Well I took the test drive, and came back to the dealer wit a big s$&teating grin on my face.:D I fell in love so hard that I bought 2 the next day. an 86 and an 87.
I feel the same way, even when i feel like upgrading to a newer one i am overcome with the emotional tie to this one (it was born within days of my 16th birthday in 87). All of those memories are still vivid. I would accept a free C5 though if you hear of one let me know. ;) (maybe I would let the wife drive this one... :p:
I think the feeling is better if you only drive the vette on weekends. After driving a truck all week I get into my vette and drive it and it always seems like a new toy and it sure is a nice change from driving my truck.
That's what it takes to keep a car in production for 50 years. People LOVE it. :yesnod: I can also relate to the comment about driving a truck all week then the Vette on the weekend. Going from a Ranger to a ZR-1 is a TRIP!
My heart beat always increases as soon as I turn the key and hear the Flo-Masters. Driving to the dentist becomes a great drive. I have owned all the C's except the C5 and even when I had my C1 and drove in my friends C2 it did not lessen my appreciation of my C1 knowing that the C2's were faster or better handling. That is and was always the case when I acknowledge that a newer Vette might be faster, etc. Besides the performance, handling, sound, etc I love the way the car sits, and looks. I am especially happy with my C4's because to me they are the most classic design of all the Vettes including the C5.I enjoy looking at them as much as I do looking at a beautiful women ( though not in the same way). And they are so easy to turn on and off unlike a moody beautiful woman.
I am totally crazed !!!!! I have to go now and look at my cars.
I confess it's had me feeling this way for the longest, too. Sometimes when I'm driving her I just think of all the technologies at work inside her and it's wild. So much heart and soul at work. It's not hard to see how the Corvette captured the heart of a nation.
I can just see that Optidark Module whirring around like a rotor disc on a PC and I can imagine the ECM processing hundreds of thousands of commands and inputs every second. It's just wild stationing the helm of such an incredible performance machine.
The sound, the smell, the look, the feel. If anyone ever manufactured the automotive equivalent of a woody, GM sure as heck did with the Corvette. This is it! :chevy
One benefit I've discovered of being a Vette owner becomes apparent when I'm having a bad day at work and remember, "Hey. In a few hours, I'll be driving a Corvette home." It's more cost effective than an hour on a shrink's couch. Perhaps if they issued Vettes to postal workers... :seeya
I was having this discussion with the wife last night. You know how when you wnat something so bad and then you get it a week or so later it's no big deal? Well, that has not happened with the Vette. I get that same excited feeling EVERYTIME I look at her or drive her. Vettes RULE!
