If cats come off on my 94(LT1), what can I expect?

Enviromental pollution, hard to pass inspection, and a little louder. High flow cats are the way to go. JMO

What about codes or warning lights? I've been told by a few corvette shops it would be fine as far as that goes, but I still think I'll look into those high flow cats.

No, shouldn't throw any codes or warning lights from my experience.

codes will only fly for 1996 Vettes, with OBDII. They have a downstream O2 sensor that tests the function of the cat. If it doesn't see the expected improvement, codes fly.

Death to all cats! You can spend $300+ on new cats so they can go bad again years from now or delete them and gain 5 hp. hmm... Luckily your not in Communist California. Do they test for emissions in Minnesota? I think headers and no cats sound better than any c4 exhaust system I have heard at idle and slight acceleration. It's with heavy acceleration around 2300+rpm that it gets extremely loud. If a quieter sound is your thing leave the cats on and go spend 1k+ on high flow cats and the corsa system. My exhaust was much cheaper and flows better.

Edit: If you want to hear one without cats start visiting your local grad strip. I am sure there will be one or two around there.

I run with no cats at all on mine...

LPE headers, straight pipes into Borla ZR1 catback...

MUCH more sound...A little performance gain perhaps. Lower running temps.

Downside. a kinda of a Smell on startup... All the cld start up smoke that where held back by the cats, no shoots right out on start up...

I run a gutted main cat for a while, but now i have a staright pipe instead, gave a little more sounds to it. Looove it

Well, now I have a doubt.
I understand that cats will burn whatever fuel was left unburned, but also there are 2 oxigen sensors, one on each of them.
As I recall, the Oxigen sensors will send a signal to the computer so the right amount of fuel is injected to the engine. Is this right?

So, if you remove the cats, what happens to the Oxigen sensors, where do you install them?

I get the idea that removing them will get the restriction out of the exhaust but besides not polluting so much, there must be a real malfunction if removed.

There will only be a code if the O2 behind the cat is effected. You see, O2s are mounted in FRONT of the cat. As such, the cat has no effect on it's function.

Many LTs come with O2 bungs in them.

Rick,

You don't get it.

We needed the air controls around here. LA would be a toxic waste dump without them.

So would just about every other city in the US if it wasn't for these emission requirements.

I really don't care if your exhaust was cheaper and flows better. That, to me, is very short sighted. I have this fantasy that the air will still be breathable by my children and their children.

My MIL grew up in LA, near the USC campus. In the mid-60s, as a teen, she would walk to the bus. She vividly remembers her lungs BURNING from the ground level smog.

Oh, and it just isn't CA anymore... Most of the NE states are mandating sniff tests, and NY, Vermont, PA and NY are all following CA standards. And most of the major urban areas, do too.

It will be a matter of time before the EPA comes down on people, like you, like a ton of bricks. All because you want a few extra horsies without taking the time to do it right or legally. Oh, then the rightious indignation will come out... And I will be sitting here, laughing my *** off. Because there are fines for removing emission controls. Upwards of $10k.

And I don't want to hear the word "communist" assoicated with emission controls. There are cities in the former Soviet Union (and currently in China) that are SO toxic, people are walking the streets with masks to keep from collapsing from the fumes and particulates. Hell, the Soviets have abandoned cities because of toxicity.

For some reason, you view them as an infringment. I don't understand that. The automakers have overcome them... why can't we be responsable enough to do the same?

While I probably wouldn't go quite that far, other than noise, you won't notice ANY difference, (unless you can FEEL 5hp at 4500rpm.) And it's just stupid to pollute just to be cool!
