Dont use frams in my Vette only A/C Delco
But I do use fram on my S10 and sense it was new with castrol sny blend oil and oil looks clean after 3000 miles so i say they must be half decent

Just my 2 cents

Nothing is wrong with Fram, they're an excellent filter. They've always been known as a filter with high flow but still capable of trapping microscopic particles. The main difference between filters is the paper, some use better filter paper than others. The check valves all have to work the same way. The only time I've ever seen a problem with an oil filter was with the Group 7 brand. And that's primarily a cheap wholesale filter sold to garages.

Change your oil regularly with a brand name filter and I seriously doubt anyone would ever see a problem.

Also, I just came from Azone and they had a special on 5 qts of Castrol and a Fram oil filter for $11.99. Not sure if that's in all areas, but thought I'd pass it along.

Good one I wish I had an '83!

5w30 and a K&N. Wally World has a great price on the Moble 1 in a 5 quart container.

There was a non-scientific (but very revealing) oil filter study done by a guy that clearly showed the reason some oil filters like Fram are so cheap to purchase. They are junk. Check it out and decide for yourself at: http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...ilfilters.html
I used to use Fram oil filters on my Nissan pickup and it would rattle the first couple of seconds at start up. Based upon the above web page results showing that the Fram anti-drain back valve was poorly constructed, I switched to Purolator. Immediate difference. No more rattle on start up.

Fram used to be pretty good, but Allied-Signal bought them and shipped a lot of the manufacturing out of the US and cheapened the product to the point where it is now junk.

Newton may have a point that if the performance filters clog at 1000 miles and the oil isn't being filtered that is bad. I would ask however, why would a quality manufacturer build a product that essentially fails in 1000 miles, and if it is filtering "too good", maybe you need to find out what the heck is clogging a premium quality filter at 1000 miles?

Fram is one of the worst filter you can buy. Cardboard end caps, leaky drainback valves, less filter area, thin cans, filters with metal shavings and pieces left in them after perforating the metal core and cutting threads.

The fact that they have 6 different lines of filters should tell you something. They also make these crap filters for other filter 'manufacturers' as well. The expensive ones are decent filters, but they don't save you any money.

Here's a fun thing to do. Buy a Fram and a Wix filter, then cut them open. Surprise, surprise, surprise! The Fram will look like there's not much of a filter. The Wix will look like a filter.

You can also use the AC/Delco PF-52 oil filter.

Fram is ghetto garbage. Don't use them. Go to your local NAPA parts counter and you can see the actual product cutaways of a Fram and NAPA Gold Filter.

You will run out of the store in sheer terror after you realize how poorly contstructed Fram filters are.

Default oil change pt3

howdy all,
well i just got back from the great white north (vaca in NE) and have finally finished the oil change in the vette so now it's ready for carlisle.
first i would like to kill this thread
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1465448
it's gone on too long

so i made my trek to advance auto parts who happens to be having a sale on mobil 1. i picked up a case of oil, a new gasket, and a mobil 1 filter (you have to ask for these as they just started carrying them) the filter came highly recommended from the manager who just came back from a conference where they demoed all the filters side by side. the mobil filter blew everyone away (even K&N).

This has to be the easiest work i've done on the car so far. jacked her up, unplugged, untwisted the filter, all new back in and done.

the only time consuming part was waiting for the very last drop of old oil to come from the pan (i'm **** that way ).

so thanks to all for your help. and see y'all in PA this weekend
