Default Derm Problem

My 1990 corvette has a seatbelt icon that won't go off. Told I needed a DERM that was deeply embedded in the dash. Part not made but a refurbish unit is available. Cost for item and installation is $1500.
Any other solutions?

If there is a Air Bag system problem, the INFL REST and the Seatbelt light will be on.

When you first turn the ignition to run, the Air Bag system does a self test. The INFL REST lamp in the DIC will light for about 5 seconds then go out if the self test passes. If it fails, the lamp will remain on along with the fasten seat belt lamp.

If the fasten seat belt lamp is the only one staying on, the switch for the seat belt is probably bad.

If the INFL REST lamp stays on, you need to pull the code or codes from the DERM.

Above the driver side right knee is the diag. connector.

Looks like this.

[F|E|D|C|B|A]
[G|H|J|K|L|M]

Take a piece of wire and short pin A to Pin K.
Turn the ignition to run (don't start the engine).

The INFL REST light will display/flash a two digit code.
First you'll see code 12 three times. On pause On On,
then you'll see any codes displayed three times.
Example 22. On On pause On On. There is a longer pause between each code. After all codes are displayed
code 12 will flash three times and the cycle repeats.

The 90 model Corvette had problems with the sensors mounted on the frame rails having poor ground connections. So if do have any codes, post them and some one can tell you what the problem is.
