We recently bought a 92 that needs a windshield. My wife is jumping up and down to get "her" a new windshield in "her" vette. And I thought this was my vette. HA HA!! Actually it is very, very good that she likes the car this much so I get to spend more time and money on it.
Anyway, she has a bid from Novus and a local glass shop. Novus is $420 plus plan on $240 for trim replacement around the windshield. The local firm is $584 and no discussion of trim around the windshield.
Generally where are members getting the windshields replaced?
What's the cost range of windshield replacement?
And, does the trim have to be replaced or is that just the lazy mans way of quickly removing the windshield?
I paid $230 total for my new windshield about 2 months ago. He did a good job removing all the trim pieces so I did not have to pay for anything other than the glass and install though.
I have heard glass people here talk about new trim if needed. Does this mean they tear up the trim just being sloppy workers or is it a side product of replacing the windshield?
Call some glass places and talk to an installer. Find out what their typical procedure is. I have no idea what, if any, differences are between R&Ring your glass and mine. But I did watch them do mine and they carefully removed my old seal.
A friend of mine who owns a garage checked the price for me. I was quoted $215 for new glass if they can save the weatherstrip, add $150 (I think) if they had to replace the weatherstrip.

I watched my neighbor get his truck windshield replaced in his driveway by a self-employed mobile auto glass guy. He was very professional and his truck was immaculate. I was so impressed I asked him to replace mine due to it having a lot of chips. He talked to me about the specifics of replacing a C4 windshield and he agreed to do it on a Friday afternoon as his last job for the week, so he could be extra careful. The following Friday he replaced the windshield without damaging the original weatherstrip other than a very tiny tear in the corner. All of the original moulding was removed and replaced without damage. Total was $320.00 and I was allowed to watch him and take pictures the whole time.
If I had to do it over again, I'd have ordered new weatherstriping and had it replaced at the same time. I suggest that you get the phone # of a couple Corvette owner customers of the two you are considering using, and call them. If they cannot supply a couple of recent Corvette owners numbers as references, maybe keep looking.
