catalytic convertor
Iam new at this ,so bear with me. My problem is that I have a 1989 Corvette ,350 engine, 118,000 miles. I have been trying to get this car smoged but my problem is that my car has no horsrpower and it cuts out. My solution is to get a new catalytic convertor installed. I have been through two heads over heating. I didnt change the radiator, my fault. The other reason is I never new about this forum. My wife wants me to sell this car, but I would eventually get it running and the inside changed out ,seats, the whole interior and new paint job.
Thanks
Richard
First of all, welcome to CorvetteForum! This is a tremendous resource of technical information with thousands of friendly members. If I may ask, where are you located? In the menu bar across the top 1/3 of the screen (starting with "Forums", then User CP, Events, Store, etc.), click on "User CP." This is basically your profile. Fill out as much information as you are comfortable with, and click submit. Then, your information like your location, what year car you drive, etc. will be available for other members to see (this comes in handy when trying to diagnose certain technical issues and/or when wanting to meet fellow forum members in your area).
In terms of your particular problem, a bad catalytic convertor can certainly cause ill running issues. Are you certain that this is your issue? I only ask because it's very easy to start throwing money into these cars in an attempt to solve a problem without first having a proper diagnosis, and that can begin to add up VERY quickly! (Especially when you have a wife who is already unhappy with the car.
)If you wouldn't mind, please post the results from your SMOG test here on the forum so we can see just what's going on with (or coming out of) your exhaust. We'll go from there...

I had a cat meltdown on an 88 TPI Camaro, the code that gave it away was for High IAT temperature... The mechanic that worked on the car knew from the code that it was the cat... He explained that the high backpresure was forcing the EGR open all the time, causing the high IAT code...

Good advice !find the problem dont just throw money at it!!

A reputable well equipped muffler shop can check your backpressure if, of course, you can get it there.
