I have a 93 auto with 101000 mile on it,just got back from vettes at MIR,put on 1100miles. The car never missed a beat. The car sat in the garage for four days, I went start it and nothing. No click from soliniod but all lights work and everything else is normal. Tried it again 5 min later and car stated and runs normal. Its done it to me twice. I did find neg battery cable a little loose. I have checked other grounds also thay all seem ok and the starter is one year old,a napa lifetime. Any suggestions?
If you turn the key and the starter doesnt click, its probably a VATS issue. If it ever happens again try cleaning your key or using another one. If the car doesnt read the key properly it won't start for serveral minutes.
I have the same problem. Once you try to start the car with a vatts problem the car will not start for 15minutes. If you try cleaning the key with alcohol it should work for you. Also you may want to spray the ignition with a shot of contact cleaner.
Good Luck!

The VATS only lasts for about 7 minutes. If it doesnt start for 15 minutes you may have another problem or if you keep trying to start it the counter resets.
You had a mis-read of the resister chip in the key and the UTD (universal theft deterrent) system. If it happens again, remove the key from the ignition wait more than 4 minutes, and it should start. The time period is designed to deter a thief from trying different key sets to steal the vehicle.
You may have a few metal shavings inside the lock cylinder. Pick up some lock cylinder spray cleaner/conditioner at a local autoparts store and give the lock cylinder a couple squirts. Should clear up the condition.
Just fixed the same problem! The dealer wanted to replace the entire ignition at 145.00 plus 100.00 labor. All you need to do is get a new key. That should run you around 40.00.
I agree with the above. You can clean the key and ingition cylinder too. A spare key is cheap and then have it cut somewhere. Make sure you know the resistance (1-15) of the pellet before purchasing a new key.
