Default '84 tail light question

It sounds so simple. When your outboard tail light goes out you simply climb under the car, reach up between the muffler, cool I hope, and the bumper, twist the connector and remove the offending bulb and replace it. I'm not exactly sure where to contact the circus contorsionist to perform this operation. I tried getting my big fat arm up there as did my wife with her skinny arm. It seems to be impossible to fish your arm around the support braces, the muffler and other obstructions. Am I missing something? Do you have to remove a bracket or two to change a simple bulb? I don't want to pay $60/hour for a simple bulb change.

It probably is impossible to reach from the bottom.

Go thru the license plate hole, there are 2 10MM bolts holding the TL housing.
Take the inner TL housing off, then go thru the inner hole to get to the outer tail light.

This is what the inside looks like,

I am certain that you cannot reach the outer taillight socket fromthe license plate cutout. I have changed my outer lamps on my 87. Its not easy, and you have to look for a path to put your arm to reach it, but it can be done.

I have heard others suggest Wayne88 solution.

Whoever designed this screw up hopefully lost his job. For the lack of 8 screws they made changing a lightbuld one of the most frustrating maintenance issues on the early C-4. And that after 1984 this wasn't changed amazes me.
