I think that is way to much!!! Around here I could of had someone remove my engine, rebuild it and put it back in. I wouldn't go there again!
they told me days before i could have a 4-5 hundred hp engine put in for 6500. i mean headers, gears, chip's,air intake, and other misc un real you know i called then atleast 10 times every time they told me they couldn't give est. the day i took car in they installed everything but the headers in two days and 3 weeks for headers. looks nice i'll try and post sound clips and pics this week i'll pick up monday. as for small claims court i'm just going to take it up the tail pipe.........
1. I am praying you paid by credit card. You have 60 days from payment to dispute the charges. Call the credit card co immediately and tell them you want to dispute the charges. If you did not pay by cc or you are over the 60 days, it will be a lot tougher to get any money back.
2. Contact better business bureau and file a complaint.
The main goal of the 1 and 2 above is to get the shop to at least recognize there is a problem and hopefully refund some of your money. I would also follow the next steps.
3. ask for a break down of the hours and cost of parts from the shop. It is usually a common set amount of hours for each task. Mechanics go by this when they give estimates. Example would be 2.8 hours to replace an EGR valve. Then $70 for the valve itself.
4. Take the break down to another shop/mechanic that you know (library may even have a book with this info) and find out if they inflated the number of hours. Also, find out about parts cost. Are they reasonably priced.
5. If everything appears to be in order. Not much you can do. If things are way off, I would call around several shops and get estimates for the same work (I wouldn't tell them that it was done already or ehat is going on) then possible take the co to small claims court with all these estimates for the difference. Having a mechanic friend with you to verify would probably help as well. Depending on what the contract says and the state you live in (are they heavy "protect the customer,") you may get part of your money back. There may even be a chance the company will settle so they dont have to go to court OR not show at all.
