Default I just plulled the plug

Hello forum

I have a question im not quite sure what they mean

In the GM 86 Factory Service Manual when doing any repair you should pull the red cable(pos) on Batt for 30 seconds to reset the EMC if any codes were present to remove the codes , wich i did

I just replaced my MAF sensor in my VETTE and during testing to see if MAF was the issue i unplugged the MAF connector and it set of a code wich is normal

But im the FSM it say you must "teach" the ECM over again by letting it get up to normal running temp ,giving it part throttle and Idle during it "learning"

Can someone explain im not quite sure what they mean
It say you may lose performance at the begining until it learns
Do I let the car idle until it learns giving it part throttle or drive it but not get on it??

Thats where im lost, Not explained very well

Disconnect the positive or negative for 30 seconds to reset the ECM. This clears the codes and resets the learned fuel trims. There, IMO, is no reason to let it idle with part throttle. Once you start the engine wait for a few seconds and go for a drive. It will take a while in all driving conditions for the ECM to control the fuel correctly (open and closed loop). Nothing major just a little fine adjustments. If the SES light comes back on, you will have to pull the code.

Just take it out and drive it normally for 10-15min, it'll be fine.

Default Battery

Always disconnect the NEG cable. If you are disconnecting the POS and the wrench hits any metal you will arc

As mentioned, always remove the NEG. DO NOT ONLY remove the POS. If you do, if the wrench hits any metal, not only will it arc, but the battery can explode in your face.

The 85,mine, has a connector coming off the battery that removes power from a section of the ECM removing all set codes. Does not remove trim, radio pre-sets ect. Doesn't the 86 and later years have the same plug?
