Default Jacking procedure 92 vert

Do I have to open the doors or hood when jacking the car to prevent anything from tweeking?? I just got it and don't want to mess anything up. It is a vert so I know it is a little more fragile to lifting??

Not to my knowledge. If the doors and hood were open, this would lead to damaging one of the two if something happened, IMO.

I usually have two jacks. One under each front side. Lift one a little and lift the other a little and have stands to support once high enough. Just depends on what you lifting it for.

It shouldn't be necessarey to open the hood or the doors. The frame and body is stiff enough to handle a corner being lifted. In fact, if you lift a rear corner at the jacking point, you can actually lift the front wheel on the same side off the ground.

When I had my 92 vert, I lifted the entire side at a time. The pinch-welded rib on the frame runs the entire length of the lower facia (where the jacking arrows are) and if you place the jack pad midway between the front and rear arrows, you can safely rasie the entire side.

Look under the car along the frame rail and find a stud that is used to support the brake lines (driver side) and fuel lines (pass. side) Just place the jack pad in front of or behind that stud and lift the car. Place stands at the front and rear, and then go to the other side and lift in the same way.

Using this method, I could get my 'vert completely off the ground in about 5 minutes.

Default Using a Jack

There is no mention made in the factory Owner's Manual about having to open/not open doors/hood, or make sure the Targa is/isn't in place before using a jack on a Corvette.

That being said, I will also tell you that there are some folks I've met over the years that will swear that you have to. I go with the guys that built the thing.

Actually, it's less fragile than a regular coupe because the frame has been beefed-up. Same type of reinforcing as the early Z51/52 frames as I recall.

My '88 Z52 coupe lifts both wheels off the ground at virtually the same time no matter which jack location I choose, targa on or off, doors & clamshell always closed.
