I just signed up for this performance driving course. A friend of mine did it a couple years ago and said it was the best money he's ever spent. The fun part is you get to drive on the Portland International Raceway, which is the same track the American Le Mans series runs on.

I AGREE! I attended my 1st such training session in SoCal about 26 years ago and never drive without being reminded of what I learned. SRI is an excellent track with a great bunch of instructors. You'll never regret the $$ you spend on this class. IMHO every owner of a sports car (and many ricers/tuners) should have completed such training. If they did there'd be fewer accidents and show-offs driving our roadways faster than their expertise!!!

If it saves you from just one accident, it's worth it!!! You'll love it. PIR also used to have the Champ Car (read: CART) races which I went to. Great place and track.

Tell us about it when you get finished.

Maui, You're gonna love it. I'm an instructor at the track in Reno and in SCCA. Last year we had a 42 Corvettes in a 2 day school, what a blast.
One thing we use in our school that really helps is an intercom. This makes it easy for the instructor and student to hear each other. We use intercoms from Chatterbox but you can also get them at motorcycle shops. The earpiece slips easily into your helmit and there is a boom mike. These cost about $120. If you plan to a few PDE's they're well worth the investment. Also, chech with your school to see if the instructors use them.

You'll be wearing a grin on your face for at least two weeks after the class. PIR is a great track with lots of run off area if you get to crazy. Have fun.

As a police EVOC instructor I have run at PIR and its a very nice road course. I've also done the Skidcar course. These type of programs are only as good as what you put into it. Listen to the instructors and follow their advise. You won't be dissatisfied. You will have a good time.

I am not sure if there are such events in your state but here I can sign up for a similar event for half the cost. Just FYI, if it helps. Check your regional section for HPDE events. One day is $200, if I remember right there are five, 20 min. heats. $350 for both days. There are instructors that will ride with you and you can have a passenger depending on the club rules.
