Ok everyone I owned a 75 a few years back and now I have a 85 and everyone is talking ecm codes ect. I feel like I could probably handle this troubleshooting with your help on my ecm (where ever that thing on my car is) Where do i get all the info codes, pdf files, on my 85.You can sure tell you guys have been doing this for a while. Any help to start with would be great. The 85 is running rough at idle and cranks awhile before starting but always starts. The check engine light comes on once in awhile and goes off also. If you point me in the right direction this sounds like fun!!! tks
The best thing you can do is purchase an 85 FSM (factory service manual, approx $100). It will pay for itself the first time you use it. The link posted by Vinnie will show you how to retreive the codes, but is not corvette specific as far as what the codes is. Some other good items to have are fuel pressure guage, volt/ohm meter, good set of tools, and some troubleshooting skill.
When it cranks for awhile is this when it is cold or hot? Cold could be the CSV (9th injector). Hot could be leaky injectors or Ignition module. Just some thoughts for now.
Retreive the code and report back for more info. ECM is located under the passenger side dash.
tks guys is there any best place to get a factory service manuelfor a 85. Also it seems to crank for awhile before it starts hot or cold. one time it fired up right awaywhen it was cold.
Helms, Ebay, mid america, ecklers, sometimes on C4 parts/wanted.
Try to hold the throttle all the way down when you crank. This puts ECM in clear flood mode and the injectors don't fire so as to get rid of extra gas in the cylinders. The FSM is the best manual to have. Haynes and Chiltons has good pics but covers all the C4 year models.
