C4 coupes
Does the removable top store in a special place in the car or does it just sit in the hatch area? I would think it would take up most of the hatch room if it does. Also, with the roof off, is there any secure storage area as the hatch area would now be accessible from inside the car?

Yes, the backside goes in each of the slots on either side of the wheel wells and the front goes against the back molding in the hatchback.
There are 2 storage bins behind the seats that are lockable.

It latches into the hatch area, but there is still a rather large amount of space under the top while stowed (not including the storage bins) where you can fit stuff.
If you put the windows up it is quite a reach to get to anything you may have stored under the top. If the hatch is popped (say to remove the roof panel) while the alarm is armed the horn will go bonkers.
Worst case scenario is someone smashes your windows to reach under the hatch and stowed top easier.
