Digital Dash - Don't Be So Quick to Trash
It's kind of surprising to read all the pot-shots aimed at the '84-89 digital dash.
I love the look of that fat wheel and Digital dash in my '88. I looked at a nice '92 coupe that was only $1800 more than the '88 when I bought it years ago. I opted for the '88 BECAUSE of the Time-capsule quality of the dash.
It's part of our collective history. That's where we were then as a car, and in cutting edge technology. That stuff was nothing less than incredible back in '84. Absolutely GEE-WHIZ!
You only hear about the digital units that are having problems, but the vast majority, like mine, are and have been working flawlessly.
Remember back in the '70s when the early '60s fuelies were much maligned? Now they are all the rage at Barrett-Jackson. I'm certainly not comparing the digi-dash to fuelies, however...
Don't be so quick to trash where we came from. If you don't like 'em, buy a '90-96 and keep your disparaging comments to yourself.

They are all a mark of progression. I dont mind the dashes really, but I have to say the best looking gauge set yet is the C6, Jjust dont care for the rest of the car in general.

Well, pong had its day also, so did the Commodore 64.
Thank God for AMD.
The fulie cars were the rage in hte 60's and 70's thats why they bring all the money now.
Anybody who had Corvette was envied but the guys who the fuel injected cars were on top of the world.
If you like the didgi dash then you're there, but more than a few have problems.
I usta like SLR's but now I own DSLR and its a step up no doubt.
Back to the past.

It was unique, and the best technology had to offer at the time. Nobody is trying to say it was the Best. Just appreciate it for what it was.

and i loved the dash on my 87 when i had it, Corvettes are not very common here in Australia, and most of the people that know one from the outside have never seen the dash in all its digital glory. Anyone saying its hard to read is having a play with themselves, its **** easy to read, and i prefer reading plain digital readouts to looking at analog gauges anyday. I have a 94 now, and am very glad they still had at least part of the dash as digital display. If you look at how many cars had these full digital displays in the 80s, the Corvette had the best of them by far. So you can say each to their own without question, but you have serious issues if you say its hard or complicated to read. It begs the question of how many of those people stating that "its hard to read" passed maths at school......

This isn't a slam or anything other then a fond memory of a quote from Car and Driver (can't recall the exact year they were reviewing) but to this day I still smile when I recall how they described the IC.
They called it "Tokyo by Night". Having owned an 87, been stationed in Japan and visited downtown Tokyo many times I have a vivid memory.

Love my Digi-dash too! Had to have it refurbished a bunch of years back but it's been good ever since. I'm a Star Wars fan from the very beginning.

I like mine the way it is. vinnies87 (I think it was him) did an outstanding job of changing over to analog gauges though.
