Stupidity has nothing to do with it. Those wipers are complex. I just overhauled my whole system a couple months ago, and it was a challenge. Bet it took me a month, if it took me 10 seconds. I had three problems going on. If I were not an electronics tech by trade. I don't think I could have pulled it off.

OK, do your wipers clash when you are cruising down the road, sitting still, or both? Sometime they clash because of the wind velocity over the windshield. I haven't had mine out long enough to check it. I may have the same problem. There are adjustments on the windshield wiper mechanisms, where they hook to the windshield wiper motor shaft. Very convenient to get to, under the cowl (Ya, Right!). I don't know if I can explain the process to you.

Lets find out about the driving or sitting still first... I can get pictures, as my cowl cover is off. Let's see how it goes...

On my '87 there is an easy to get to and do adjustment. Turn on the wipers and stop them when they are all the way up. Open the hood and look at the plastic screen that keeps leaves and junk out of the cowl, on mine there's a removable 1" X 2" piece I believe it was left of center in that screen. Remove that piece and you'll see a 10mm (I think) nut. Loosen that nut with a nut driver and you can put the arms where ever you want too to prevent them from crashing. On mine there are marks on the windshield that I presume are there for reference points if you want to use them. Tighten the nut, snap that little piece of plastic screen back in place and it's done. Takes just a few minutes. That's the way mine is anyway. Another cheep easy trick some people do is purchase a blade 1" shorter than the original for the left side. That would give you all kinds of room. jmo

Default Windshield Wiper Problem

The windshield wipers weren't working on my 87 and discovered that the plug to the motor had become disconnected. Reinserted the plug and everything is working again except that when you go to turn the wipers off, they continue to run. The only way to turn them off is to turn off the ignition completely but who wants to do that going down the road?
Anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for? BTW, the control switch is brand new and a friend thinks it could be the windshield wiper motor module? Anyone else with this problem?

Well, i had the same problem of the wipers crashing into each other..When i first replaced my blades when i bought my car, i bought the recommended 20" blades (Bosch wiper replacement book). One day during some heavy rain, maybe a month ago, the wipers collided so badly that they bent. . I pulled over, bent them back, and the very next day i bought a pair of 19" wipers. Unfortunately, one 19" blade will not give you 1" extra clearance at the crashing point. But Now that i have new 19" wipers, they've only crashed once since then, and I believe that was when they were on the high speed setting"

I know this will seem dumb and too simple, but when you snapped the blades back on the arms, if you have the "offset" backwards, or you mix the two, the blades will collide. At least it is a simple, visual check!
