Default 1995 Cooling Problem

I'm new to the forum and fairly new to my C4. To be brief, my cooling fans don't come on. The fans come on in low speed mode when the A/C is on (which is normal per the service manual). I'm suspecting the engine coolent sensor or (please God, no) the PCM, but I'd appreciate any other input before buying parts. I don't have access to the TECH1 diagnostic tool referred to in the service manual or any other scanning device...thanks.

A manual overide is basically a toggle switch and some wire. I think what he's speaking of is a temperature controlled switch, also known as an index switch. They can be purchased to activate at various temperatures and as normally open or normally closed, all depending on your needs.

How warm does your engine get? The primary fan comes on around 228* and the secondary at 235*. Both come on with the AC regardless of temp. So if your engine doesn't get to the primary trigger temp the fans won't come on.

This is correct. But you can have your ECM re-flashed to set the fan-on/off temps lower, if you prefer (I did this, and am much happier with my operating temps since doing this).

Be well,

You mention that the fans come on "in low speed mode" when the ac is on. I think that there is only one speed on these fans. When they are on, they are on.

I run with my ac on all the time and thus have no worries even in stop & go traffic.

Take a look at this post, I posted a lot of general information on how the system operates, what variables determine turning on and off cooling fans, and a few answers to some questions.

Hope it helps.... some!

95's have 2 speeds "low" & "high". They operate in concert.
