Better off line performance
I am looking to increase throtle responce and offline hole shots.. Whats the best route to start with. I don't want to get crazy with mods but would like to get it to scoot a little better. I have a 96 LT1 (tuned), K&N filter and a Corsa cat back... I'm also thinking about gears... 323 or 342???
Looking for ideas so I can start getting what I need...
Thanks

Is it an auto? If so, a stall convertor would be a nice upgrade. What gears do you have now?

Either 3.54 or 3.73 gears, with the choice coming down to how much hwy use you put it through.
Then a 2400-2600 stall TC.
That will solve your stoplight problems.

Auto... stock..
259's stock....
I do use the car for cruising often so I don't want to go to steep in the gears. Thats why I was thinking 342's

3.42 is a C5 gear, you have 3.54 or 3.73 in the D36 as options.
3.45 is a D44 gear, which is not a bad idea to switch, but a D44 will run you much more money.

In my 86 I have a 2400/2600 stall and 3.07 gears. It rips off the line really nice and still gets good mileage with the 3.07's. The 3.07's were the performance gears for the Auto tranny cars. You can get better gears for quickness but you will sacrifice your mileage. The 3.07 is is nice gear for the street and occasional strip use.

Yo Scott, I went with 3.45's and a 2800 stall. It'll snap your neck on takeoff and cruising mileage isn't so bad.
I can manage about 360 miles to a tank. That's nowhere near the 500+ I used to get, but it's doable.

Only 3.31, available only in 84. Your chances of finding it are slim.

Swap it out for an L98 and you will have all the off the line torque you can handle
Most of the off the line "zip" you are looking for will most likely come from a new set of gears as most of the guys above have stated.
