Default Chattering Wipers

I took her out for a spin today, even though there was spotty rain. Here at the beach, we get a lot of salt spray buildup and a little fresh water on her wasn't a bad idea.

Anyhow, I have relatively new blade rubber, and the upswing is fine. But the downswing chatters. It actually chatters less on high speed then low/intermittent.

The windshield is very clean - have been using that Zaino glass cleaner.

Help on how to adjust would be appreciated.

Bob

You should not need to adjust anything. Take a clean, damp towel and run it back and forth the length or the blade a few times. Bet it comes away black and your problem just goes away. let us know.

If I remember correctly, when I purchased my new wiper blades they came with a small towelet (sp?) of isopropyl alcohol that you were supposed to wipe the blade edge with. Well, I did not do that and they chattered up and down like crazy! Got home, dug out that small towelet and wiped them and it smoothed right out. Hope this fixes it for ya, that chattering can drive one crazy!!

Gotta love this site, learn something new every day. Just hit mine w/ a wet rag and then an alcohol wipe & bingo...chatter free. Man, serious black @#$! came off and the blades are relatively new. Thx!

Give it a go Bob, it works.

I bought Rain-X blades and they're a waste of money. For one they didnt fit and two they arent any better than other blades. Right now I only have one wiper cause one came loose, smacked into the other one and broke off. Now I need a new stupid wiper arm!

you gotta use the little packet on the blades or they will chatter or squeak.

Soak a rag (like a terry cloth) with Windex or glass cleaner, and clean the blades. It's helpful to lift them up and set the tab out then use a small blade screwdriver to pop the blade free of the arm. Then do the wiping off the vehicle like on your work bench and re-install.

I think he meant the Rain-X Liquid Repellant, not their blades. The Rain-X Windshield Washer Fluid is bomb, too.

The Fog-X anti-fog window treatment is doodie, though. Don't waste your money.

Great thread.
My wiper chattering drives me nuts

I'm going to wipe the blades as soon as I get home.

Thanks

Hey, great - thanks for all the help. I probably should have cleaned them when I put them on (easier) but will do - now we just need more rain so I can test, or perhaps a hose. They don't chatter with the washer fluid, of course.

Thanks all, Bob
