A '91 vette w/ 130,000 miles and a transmission that will only go
into first gear...is for sale.
Apparently will cost $900-1200 to get the transmission up..but
should I take it as a sign that this car was driven hard and
alot more will be going on with it and so avoid the car ?
Plus comes w/ horrible rims so I'd have to pay more to get
some saw blades on it..
Plus just to get someone to look at it....I'd have to tow it somewhere..
130k is about the upper limit of a 700R4. That means the tranny dieing at that distance does not necessairly indicate the car was abused. What is the overall condition and the asking price?

Auto or stick? If auto, it could be a $5 governor gear or a sticky governor valve.
Told car goes into first gear and reverse. Transmission guy says
the rebuild is little cheaper since the car can go in reverse.
Don't know if it could be as simple as something to do with the
governor ?
The car itself is in ok condition..but it's been driven so it's
got marks on the exterior..alot on the front nose..
Interior needs headliner replaced..overall average wear..
Not sure if to buy..as few people have told me the C5 is more
reliable. Since I wouldn't be doing any work on car myself..might
be biting off more than I could pay for in repairs w/ a
130,000 C4....
Be prepared to do the head gaskets on the motor.
If the original rad is gone, that means the coolant wasn't serviced regularly. Usually the head gaskets fail also because of this.
Maybe a grand to do this job.
I had a trans like that and it turned out to be a bad modulator valve and was like 15 bucks. I don't know if the '91 has one of those of not. It could also be low on fluid. If you can get it for 3k I think it would be a good deal provided you don't have anything else to mess with.

In a word RUN. If you do not intend to do repairs yourself $3k is mearly a downpayment with expensive monthly payments forever. Maybe a bit harsh with that but you can bet it will run you some bucks.
