Default Modifying the L98

Hello, I drive an '89 vette and I've been wondering: what are some of the best starting modifications that I can make to the car? I already have an intake, but should I look into headers or gears? Maybe performance exhaust? Basically...what gives the most performance for the least amount of money.

Thanks a lot for reading,
Matt

On an L98, an exhaust from the headers back.

Try a search for more ideas then you can handle.

A tune up!

Plus you get into the groove of keeping a maintainence schedule for your car.

Two birds, one stone.

it is all about moving air through the engine. Better intake to get more air in and better exhaust (headers) to get more air out.

I agree, the L98 stock exhaust system is pretty restricted. I would go with headers, hiflow cat, and cat back mufflers, to start with.

Well, the only thing is, it already has new exhaust. But, I don't think it's very performance oriented, and it doesn't sound too aggressive. I just don't want to burn money on exhaust when I already have a nice new one

BTW, what's your website, Vader?

You've got all the info you'll need already posted....

My experience;

Catback
Magnaflow Cat
Remove the precats (still legal in some states)
New injectors (22lb)
Fuel filters and spark plugs
A new tune from Alvin @ PCMsforless.com

This is basically what I've done to my stock 86 (130K) and it runs 14 flat at 99.

The only modifications that i've made are a Magnaflow catback and a high flow catalytic converter. I definitely felt the difference after they were installed.

There's a used cam in the parts section, that would give a good power gain for little cost, if you did your own work.

Alright, awesome guys.

Sorry it took so long for the response, I've just been too worried about that weird noise coming from my motor. I'm going to take a look at vader's site.

the best thing I did to my 87 coupe was to cool down the pressure cooker by installing a 180 t stat and wiring both fans to a 200/185 sensor.
