Default Temperature Question (again)

I was sitting in the driveway recently one evening with the motor idling. The evening air was cool. I reckon we sat for about 10 minutes idling. I notice the temperature gauge rising again towards max. We quickly got started going down the road when the gauge started decreasing. I know I posted before when this problem occurred while in Alabama summer traffic. I didn't expect this to happen in the fall however after 10 minutes of idling. I hadn't driven the car in almost two weeks. What are ya'lls thoughts?

Sounds like fan not coming on. What do you call max temp? Digital or analog gauges?

i am not sure, but i don't believe the outside temperature really matters in a car that is sitting idle. internal engine heat would be the same, until the car started moving forward, and was able to take advantage of the cold air flow. right or wrong?

What year, what temp did you see. Most fans come on around 230 and you see an immeadiate drop in temp. Let it idle, open the hood and see if the fan(S) come on around 230

you may need to pull the radiator and clean both it and the inside of the plenum. You can find a very good "How To" on this in the Tech Tips section of the forum.
