I haven't been driving my car much (1990) but I drove it to work tonight and noticed 2 dash lights that stayed lit. 1st) is the seatbelt or no seatbelt light stays on. 2nd) is INFL REST stays on. How can I fix this problem? Thanks Joe.
There must be some kind of problem with the Airbag system mate. (unless the seatbelt reminder has anything to do with the airbag light, not that i know of....)
If you have the service manual read and follow the diagnostic section for the airbag system. It's common for the airbag sensors to form corrosion around their mounting areas and they will set a code. both of my sensors on my 90 failed this way. It's not too hard to replace, but it's a good idea to follow the diagnostic charts so you're not just throwing money at it.
The A/C Compressor drops water on the frame, it runs under the left side air bag sensor and the corrosion causes it to trip the code. There's a link somewhere giving step by step instructions on the procedure. It's pretty easy getting to the sensor, cleaning and reseating as well. The trick is getting the code to reset.
Remove right front wheel. Remove the plastic wheel well panels. Remove the windshield washer resevior. The sensor is right there on the frame. Its tricky getting a socket in there, alt with a flat wrench and remove. Sand the frame with fine sandpaper and wipe clean or I used alcohol after sanding. Lightly sand the bottom of the sensor with wipe clean as well. Coat the sensor bottom with die electric grease and replace. Next clear the code as follows: You can use a jumper wire with a momentary switch or just use a jumper wire.
Jump pin A to K.
Turn the ignition to run.
When the INFL REST begins to flash the codes
Remove the jumper from Pin K for 3 seconds +- 1/2 second.
Reconnect A to K for 3 seconds +- 1/2 second.
Remove jumper wait 10 seconds then turn ignition off.
You may have to try this acouple of times. The 3 second time frame must be accurate.
Looking at an analog clock with a second hand makes it easier.
