Default Removable Top

I removed the Top on my 1990 for the first time yesterday. Getting it back on was a pain. I struggled to get the front bolts lined up. Do you Guys tighten the front bolts or the rear ones first?

Rear first, only until snug. then fronts to snug, then rear again, then front.
Never crank one side down all the way first.

It should just drop right into place. I never had a problem getting the bolts lined up in my 85. Just don't try to put the top back on if you aren't on even ground. It won't fit

My Driveway is uneven and on a slight incline, I'll put it on in the garage next time.

You're not saying the structure of the C4 gets compromised when the tops off are you? WHy would GM do something like that?

The first time I drove my 94 with the top off I kinda freaked out a bit. The car acted really loose, felt like it was going to fall about. Posted a message and was informed that it is completely normal and most convertables regardless of the make has a little bit of flex when driving. Now it is just expected and I am quite used to it. Just another little quirk that our cars has. Gotta Love em huh?

If it fit before you took it off it should drop right into place. If not you may have to adjust the front mounting brackets.

There's your problem. I wouldn't ever put it back on if you are in an uneven surface, you can damage the top, and they ain't cheap

When you have it off, clean the gaskets and apply a thin coating of diletric grease to them. Keeps them soft and will stop some of the small water leaks.

You may also want to realign the top with the mounting brackets... there are proceedures on how to do it, think in the tech tips, if not, email me, i have the proceedure and happy to send.
