Looking to see if anyone has flowmaster mufflers and are they happy with them. I've read a lot about Corsa and Borla but not too much on Flowmasters. Appreciate all comments!
i've got flowmasters on my Grand Sport. there 4inch in/out 2 chambers
a little loud but it sounds good
i just wish i could find some 4 inch tips for them. i had to make my own from 4in pipe.
(95 LT1) I have Flowmaster Super 40s, x-pipe, and catless Stainless Works long tube headers. Even with all of that I still think the car is fairly quiet (despite what many say about Flowmaster). With that set-up I have ZERO resonance as well and it sounds great.
EDIT: This thread of mine goes over a lot of what I have and there is a sound clip at the bottom ( though sadly the digital camera doesn't pick up the deeper tones). http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1491891
I just removed the Flowmasters from my '94 and replaced with Corsa. The resonance was just too much on trips over 30 minutes - there may be a difference with a convertible though. They did sound nice though if want want to draw attention. On the other hand, my Corsa system sounds really nice at idle and on acceleration, but is almost wisper quite at 70 mph and in 6th gear.
I have the Flowmasters from the CAT back on my '87. It has a great rumble at idle and a big growl when you accelerate. At highway speeds you can barely hear them. I don't think there is any performance gains from any of these systems, no matter what the manufacturer claims. But the aggresive sound gives a perception of speed. When I hit the key in the parking lot the sound always seem to turn a few heads.
I just changed what I thought was a stock exhaust with Corsa's on my 89 coupe. My exhaust sounded too quiet for my liking but I didn't want to be too aggressive. I found out that I had flowmasters (don't know which version) but they were quite quiet and had little resonance that my failing ears could detect.
The Corsas are exactly like someone else posted an interesting idle and a nice growl on acceleration yet quiet at cruise.
I spent a lot of time at car shows and events this year trying to listen to each brand on a C4. I finally just made a pick and so far I'm very satisfied with the Corsa sound.
Mine came with the Flowmasters on. Was told by the dealer that the owner spent about $2500 on exhaust. They sound fine, no complaints from my passenger, she likes the ride !!!!
Well... since others are posting their pics.... these are the tips I put on my Super 40s (2.5" offset inlet / 2.5" center outlet). I went with more of a hotrod/ old school look... (Hookers).
I have 40's with long tube LPE headers, 3 inch pipes with dual cross-overs. Pushing the exhaust is a blown 383, that is another reason she is so loud... WHAT?
I'm considering going with some stainless header cone diffusers. But she does sound sweet to me
I have an '84 with no catalytic converter, but have an x-pipe in its place. I had Flowmaster Super 40s on it, but just replaced them with Magnaflows. I loved the sound of the Super 40s from the outside of the car, but resonance on the interior was annoying.
I'm glad I made the switch to the Magnaflows--it is much more pleasant inside the car.
**I kept the Flowmasters just in case I feel wild again! ***
Thanks for the all info. I think I am going to install flowmasters on my LT1 '94 vert. I am planning on using my stock tips. It may be a little loud but that doesn't bother me. Thanks again to everyones input.
Do a search on Nathan Plemmons. He has sound a clip of flowmasters on a 92. I've got the delta flow 40's on mine and i love the sound but resonance is definately an issue around 1800-2000 rpm. Gets real annoying on long trips.
