Cutting the stock air lid out (where the gills are, cut a big square), should improve the airflow. Descreening the MAF allows more airflow (200 cfm), but doing this may allow some trash to enter the intake and in will not allow straightened airflow through the wires. You can bypass the coolant to the TB with a few parts from a hardware store. You can advance the base timing a little.

If you already have a timing light and something to cut the lid, these will only cost a few bucks for the TB bypass.
my 2 cents:
The last free day I had I checked the TPS for proper positioning (.54 V), pulled a few plugs to validate lean/rich conditions, cleaned the throttle body (what a surprise when I got the gunk out), unplugged the relay's and put dilectric grease in (21 years old, collected alot of dirt), checked the air in my spare (only had 15 pounds in it), greased the suspension, and drove the snot out of her!!!!!!!!!
