The mileage reading is stored in the CCM. It'll still read the same mileage.

You really don't want to change the panels on the dash. I would leave them as is. They also are marked with temp points the 90 doesn't have. I would just change the LCD panel and be done with it. It'll still be orange if you leave the skin (film) on it. Be careful, it (LCD) marks / scratches very easily and once marked always marked.

You shouldn't have any problems with the install. Let me check the pinouts to be sure.

??? What film? The 94 is white... how will it be orange if I leave the "skin (film)" on it???

I'm speaking of the LCD, it will stay orange with the film behind it. The instrument lamps shine thru a piece of clear thin film, the orange film, and the LCD lense.

Your gauge representations will still be white on the 94

.... when I get home, I am going to check the feasibility of changing the face with all the lettering.

Johnny,

You seem to know the second gen C4 instrument panel. I picked up my "new" wheels from WheelAmerica (www.fixrim.com) today (the clear-coat on the 16 year old wheels were starting to get "milky" -- they look like brand new now) so I took my car to work today -- first time I've driven in the dark for a while. NEway, the tach side of the instrument panel is dark. Looked in the service manual and I see that there are 2 lamps; one for the tach needle and one for the tach display. Seems unlikely that 2 bulbs went out simuatneously. The electrical section has a diagnosis tree for all bulbs being out, but not for just one side. The service manual says that removong the cluster involves lowering the steering column -- does it really?!? What do you think -- is it the bulbs or the printed circuit?

I finally put a 93 dash in mine. Plug and play, except for one change. Put the 90 LCD in place of the 93. No other changes are required. No problems since then.

It is possible to take the cluster out without dropping the column, BUT, by the time you have wrestled it out, cut a few fingers, scratched the dash and column, you could have dropped the steering column.

Take the carpet piece off, seems like 6-7 phillips, across the front near the cluster plastic, 2 on the bottom, 2 on the left side and one mother near the pedals 10mm I think. Unhook the courtesy light. move it out of the car. Don't forget to take the ALDL screw out.

Then you come to the metal support 4 screws hold it on 10mm too, i think. 2 on the left side and 2 almost hidden by the console side.

Don't forget the courtesy lamp. And don't forget to take the SIR fuse out in the fuse box, and of course unplug the yellow covered wire, before you even think about hitting it with the 1/4 drive ratchet. That yellow wire goes to the air bag on the steering wheel.

Now you're down to the column. Screw out the tilt lever, it comes out.
There's a black metal support bracket for the column with 2 15mm, i think, bolts. take them out, you'll see the column start to drop when you take the 2nd bolt loose, let the column ease down and there you are!

Take the facia screws loose and remove the facia, including the flat pieces and theres the cluster. There are 4 screws that hold the cluster, 2 on the top and 2 on the outside bottom, i think 7mm. Take the screws loose, don't pull them out yet, dab a little axle grease on the hex end of the socket (6" extension and deep well 6 pt) and push it on the screw and ease them out. Don't worry if you drop them, there's a plastic cavity surrounding the cluster which catches fumbled screws.
use a little effort so that you can get some slack on the connector. Reach behind and unplug the wire connector, 1 push clip on each of the long side ends, you'll have to wiggle it out but it will come. You'll see the lamps on the back side when you remove the back cover, if they've been replaced before, it may or may not have the plastic cover on it.

Reassemble in the reverse order.

Not what I wnated to hear, but thnx. I've worked on the column b4 (multi-funtion switch) and had hoped I could avoid this.

See above 1992B4C.
All the lense plastic and stuff must be taken off before you even attempt to remove the gauge, tack faces. When you get that far, you'll see what I mean.
The white shows up better in low light situations than the orange, IMO.
White background with black letters is even more better.
