Looked at a 95 today that reasonably priced - only issue I can find is
the "sys" flashes once in a while. Owner claims he had it checked by the dealer and the computer came back with no faults. Could this be tied to the tire pressure sensors or is it something else
Most common reason to see the flashing "SYS" is a dying battery...
If not the battery, does it have an aftermarket stereo? If so:
If "SYS" is displayed in the LCD section of the instrument panel cluster after the customer installs a new (aftermarket) stereo, he will need to do the following:
1. Buy (2) 1 kilo-ohm 1/2 watt resistors. [Radio Shack part # 271-023. They sell them as a 2pk for .29 cents.]
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the receiver.
4. Connect one end of both resistors to ignition power. (Yellow wire in the car)
5. Connect the other end of one resistor to the purple/white wire in the car.
6. Connect the other end of the second resistor to the grey/black wire in the car.
7. Cover all connections and completely cover the resistors.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Get a paperclip and connect pin 12 to 5 of the connector under the driver side dash, turn on key, code(s) will display. If its the stereo, it should be code 72, will display as H072. I have a 95 with the service manuals. It could also be the battery.
Yep, you need the code. SYS is comming from the CCM ( central control module or computer) which controls all electrical functions in the car. Actually , there are 14 I think. Fuel, Lights dimming, light sensor, rear window defogger, vehicle speed, radio, climate control, oil monitor, clock. Plus others. Mine flasher one day and not the next. Everything seems to work so I'll wait for something not to work before I bite the bullet and take it to the shop.
My 92 LT1 has an aftermarket stereo that was installed by the previous owner and occasionally flashes the 'sys'. Since everything works I have just ignored it. I did replace the ECM because the car wouldn't start when hot. The car starts now and the 'sys' still flashes once in a while.
