Ok Guys and Girls Im heading out next wednesday Morning for Carriere Mississippi, Its gona be a 9 hour drive for me so I was wondering If yall could give me some advice on what I should do to stay awake for the drive and keep my mind clear from getting sleepy...Its my first long trip and I dont want to fall asleep at the wheel any advice would help lots and thanx once again Tony
Start out fresh (not after a work day). Allow some extra time so you can pull off for breaks whenever you start feeling tired. Windows down helps, music can either put you to sleep or wake you up--pick some 'fast' CDs to take. Enjoy the scenery and don't fixate on the highway. Several small meals, not one or two big meals while driving also helps. Coffee? Maybe for some, not for all.
Not sure how good your singing voice is (or who will be traveling with you) but when I'm driving late at night, I belt it out and it keeps me wide awake.
Pack a small cooler with a couple of your favorite caffinated drinks, a couple of waters and some snacks. If the weather is nice, drop the top for the first leg, then I'd advice putting the top back on for the end of the trip so the ride feels really smooth (comparitivly) and you don't get sun burnt.
Thanx guys All the opinions sounds really good for my trip, Il be leaving early in the morning Ima go to bed early too its just going to be me all by myself traveling...Awesome Il pack me some snacks and think I'll get me 2 packs of Redbull too!!
Just don't drink too much. Remember the more you drink...the more you're going to have to stop to get rid of it. I try to ration out my beverages...but my road trips are usually all dayers. 11-13 hours. I'll be heading to Lake Charles LA, Jasper TX, and San Antonio TX come christmas time. Should log around 3200-3500 miles in about 10 days.
Wow!!! Your absolutely right I think I will ration my beverages and snacks as well, Geez I thought I had a long trip whooo.... My trip should should be 652.7 miles in 9 hrs, Ive never driven that far before and I guess Im just a little scared I will fall asleep or something I dunno...
I just love to drive. So I guess the main thing is to enjoy the road. I'm always checking what's around me. Laughing at funny cars that I pass or pass by me. I also try to find a good speed that's good for me. I don't like being the fastest person on the road, but I can't stand being the slowest. I also like finding a nice group of cars to travel with. around 4-5 cars is nice as long as they aren't doing triple digit speeds. I also don't like talking on the phone. Even if you can keep both hands on the wheel, you're mind is no longer on the road...Damn I'm starting to sound like my dad. I'll shut up now.
Yeah I tend to talk on the phone sometimes while driving, but since Im gonna be driving that far I might not do that, Yeah I wont be speeding since I will be going through Georgia Il try and keep a good speed but yet stay away from the crazy drivers
the best guard against falling asleep is to drive a car that is fun to drive, like say a Corvette..................
A few weeks ago I did 1800 miles in three days and then back in two days, as long as you slept the night before and are traveling during the day, sleep shouldn't be an issue.

Huh???? Try a long trip thru Ohio or Pa if you want to go slow. I live, work and drive in GA everyday and it has to be one of the highest speed limit states in the country, plus cops give you 10 over before they will hassle you. On the forum I am not supposed to say I drive triple digits nearly everyday, so i just won't say it.
On the other hand you do have to watch out around Atlanta, traffic and drivers are just plain nuts. Too many too fast and just as many too slow, then throw in the mix of one's that are on the cell phone and really have no clue where they are going.
As you become comfortable you will soon learn to drive it like a Corvette, then your heart starts to kick start your brain and you will have no problems, except that ship eaten grin on your face.
wow you guys have gone on some long trips longer than mine, I dont mean to offend any of you guys Sorry if I did... I just never drove that long before, but Im sure Il be fine once Im cruising at a reasonable speed Boy is my butt gona be sore when I get to my gfs
On road trips, I find the best way to stay awake is to listen to a book on tape. Most of them are between five to eight hours and they are free at your local library.

Well, that'd certainly be a way to keep me from speeding.
