Winter Driving in IL ???
live the first snowfall and the salt trucks come out
and boy do they pour it on. the streets actually look
gray from so much salt!!! that's why I put mine away
after the first snowfall.
I never understood the point of "putting up" one's Vette just because its winter. Surely there will be nice dry days all winter when the car can be driven. An added bonus is the nice cool air brings a few more horses. I always keep an eye on the forecast, and if there is a solid chance of bad weather it stays home. Otherwise
then it gets all over the undercarriage and the salt that does
not melt it gets in all the nooks and cranny's and then after a
while when it gets humid the bare metal parts under the car
start rusting from the SALT!!!
that's why I put mine away for winter....Poncho
However, once home, she gets a good soaking of the undercarriage to rinse out as much of the salt as possible. I've had mine for 4 years now, and with careful inspection of the under carriage for signs of salt and rusting, she hasn't suffered from salt, as far as I can tell.
I bought it to drive it...Not just for show. So I drive it. And, whata rush when that sub-freezing air rushes into the intake!
You'll get a real kick in the pants that you'll not get in the heat of the summer, I kin tell ya!
