Default Scratch on windshield

My 84 has some scratch marks on the upper protion of the winshield were the last owner let the wiperblade go and scratches appear on the glass. Is there any cure or must I live with it or replace the whole windshield?

Depending on the severity of the scratchs some glass shops actually can get them out, might want to stop by one and see what they can do.

Default If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail...

I have found that glass scratches that can be felt with a fingernail cannot be removed, even by a glass shop. They can be minimized somewhat. I had one on an F150 buffed out at a glass shop last year - you can still see the scratch. I'd say it was reduced by 50%.

Jewelers Rouge and very fine steel wool will take out very light scratches, anything deeper and new glass will be only way to go.
Bad news is C$ windshield replacement is about $550-$600 around here.

Does the application of any product lessen the appearance of a scratch or minor chip. I'm thinking of a wax-type application or something.
