Default TireRack.com Q

OK so I'm ready to finally try my luck with tire~rack...... I'm more of a payment in person/parts in person kinda guy. So I'd like to know if there's any horror stories or if they are a straight up great company to deal with? And the avg. shipment time, from payment to door step. I'm going to deposit the money in my bank tomorrow for the tires and pay with my check card...good or bad idea? I know you guys like tirerack.com, I'm just doing a lil research before bitting the inevitable bullet. unless someone knows a tire shop locally (swfl, punta gorda area) that carries or sells sumitomo's

Tirerack treated me well. Their prices and shipping are top notch so you can't go wrong in dealing with them. I'll buy again someday from them too!

Have purchased many sets of tires from them without any problems. Shipping is very quick. I ordered tires for a daily driver on a Tuesday and they arrived the next day. Buy with confidence.

There was a post not too long ago about the terrible road hazard program they offered. Do a quick search and it'll come up. The basics were that the road hazard is significantly prorated and does not cover shipping of your new tire. There were a few other things too, but it I'm not certain what they were.

They have several warehouses around the country, so shipping is quick. Prices are good(I can do better local), but they are good to deal with.

If there is any kind of problem, they will call you promptly.

I had a beef with them because they refused to sell me tires. I was buying skinnies for my car and obviously were not the OEM spec size, so they told me, no way could I buy them.

So they were looking out for themselves with liability issues in case I crashed my car with the wrong size tire that they sold me.

Other than that, I have no problems with them.

Bought a set of wheels/tires from them last year. Ordered on a Saturday, received them Tuesday - ready to mount on the car.
Prices were OK, and no sales tax because they don't have a store in my home state, which also means I didn't have to pay the $2.00 each tire tax.

I didn't buy the road hazard, too much of a hassle to follow through with any potential problem.
I paid by charge card to get next day shipping.

Very fast shipping with tirerack, and great customer service. My only suggestion for you when buying anything off the internet, always use a credit card and not a check card.

I have bought from Tire Rack many times without any problems. I found out that if you take the pricing info. from Tire Rack & if Discount Tire can get the same tire they will match the price. You have to get them mounted & balanced anyway. I haven't tried other tire places but it might be worth a try.

I got a better quality tire from them, for a 1/3 of the price of the cheapest tire place near me. I don't remember how long it took them to ship it to me, which probably means it was fast.

Bought several sets of tires from them, zero problems. Good prices, fast shipping (and many tire places will take drop-shipped tires from them).

Because a lot of local tire stores now realize how much business they are losing to Tire Rack, many of them will match the prices plus tax if they can. Plus, they'll cut you a deal on mounting/balancing/disposal. A couple of years ago all of the local places raised their mounting and balancing prices just because so many people were bringing in Tire Rack tires.

Business is business, but if the local guys can get within 10% of Tire Rack, I'll buy local. Less hassle carrying wheels and tires to the tire shop...

Default Whoops

So on my way to the bank I stopped at well lets just say a tire shop that'll do anything for money... ....THEY could get the tires So I said "let's get em"... $586 with everything, not including alignment and installing on car (don't trust them that much). Tirerack's cost 454 shipped to the door. So i was leaving called my dad and we talked... "I should've told you before not to buy the tires from them" APPARENTLY, the rims my dad picked up for my vette came from a guy who worked there and my dad didnt like the guy. No biggie just go back and tell them to take the mounting and balance off and we're good (yeah I know I'm getting screwed in price but oh well) So I go back and they take off the balance (mounthing is frrreeeeee ) 442.... "wait you forgot to do the valve stems" "oh yeah" so now the balance is 430. He brought up the 315's for 142.95, and the 275's for 124.95.... Then took $11 off per tire for something I can't remember, plus 7% tax, and there's $4 tire fee? when he did the bill the first time he kept asking how much could i get them for. "107 rear, 88 front". he had this look. yeah his eye had to be pushed back in to boot.. I know $530 is TOOOOOOOO much in my book... I have a 430 balance remaining.

When I did the tirerack.com price with the mount/balance and alignment it came to $612 including the taxes on everything but the tires.

someone cheer me up, this is depressing

Altho of late they've become a bit errant in returning calls, I've been dealing with them for over ten years. And they are one of the best at what they do. I only go to other store/places when I can't get a response, which is seldom.

WADR, I have no idea what you wrote in your follow up post. If you thought you were saving money, great.

Yeah, that was wrote on an emtional high/low/something .

Basically it's just saying I found a shop locally that can get the tires. and had them order a set of 275/40/17 & 315/35/17... + mounting and balance. But decided to have the mounting and balance taken off for the fact that I didnt feel safe having them do the tires. just wanted to get them and go else where. I felt I got s c r e w e d.. but I just did the math if I could've gotten them locally for $454 total + our 7% sales tax and the $4 state fee which comes out to about 490 so that's not so bad.. I'm paying $530 for all 4.

Was that any better??

I have bought from them three times, truck tires for my Colorado, and I got the exact replacement tires, General, for $50.00 a tire because of overstock. I can't even come close here in Rochester, and a friend that works at Dunn Tire here in Rochester just shakes his head at the prices.

I always let Dunn mount, and balance them, along with the fact that they do the best alignment of anybody in the area IMHO.

I ordered a set of Goodyears from them last year for my 84'. They arrived 46 hours later in my driveway. Not impressed? I live in Alaska. Their prices were better than anything I could get locally even with the shipping included.

Oh - and a wave from the C6 forum. I got bored over there and decided to check out my old hang out.

I have been wanting to by the Kuhmo Escata MX from them but they are on backorder. So i e-mailed them about it and they said it would take a min of 6-8 weeks for them to get off of backorder. Looked the other day and they don't even offer the size i was looking at earlier. So now i don't know what to do about it. I can get the 275 instead of the 285 but where is the fun in that.

I sent them an e-mail about them not offering the tire anymore but haven't heard back from them yet. (sent it wednesday).

Vetster, yes, better! Sorry, but I did get lost in your other post.

In response to a few posts, because tirerack buys so many tires, and has all those warehouses, you'd be surprised how many "local" and even chain tire dealers in every city actually GET THEIR tires from a tirerack warehouse. And guess what that means, price-wise to you.

In my area, the mounting and balancing prices went up when tirerack sales went up many years ago and they've never come down. In many respects, this is really not much of a car-area, and the indy and dealership places can get away with charging anything. The buyers are just not "aware" of anything better, nor do they choose to make it better. That's life.
