Went to change the Front Air Dam/Spoiler the other day. Got out the Hydraulic Floor Jack - but couldn't find jack points under the car. Not wanting to drop the Spare Tire & Jack, I just changed the Spoiler without raising the car. Just where do you put a Hydraulic Floor Jack on an '86?
for the front, under the engine cross brace, you may need to drive up on some 2x12 to get the front end up, or look on the sides and you will see 2 triangles behind the front wheel and in front of the back wheels on both side, jack up there
Look on the rocker panel and you will see two little triangles for the front and back jack positions. Slide the jack between these arrows, make sure it goes up against metal then jack the car up.
I use my floor jack to raise one side at a time, place jack stands on the frame rails and go to the other side and repeat.
If you look under the lower facia between the marked jacking points, you will see a thin metal rail that is the pinch weld of the frame. Just inside this rail you will see a threaded stud and nut that is used to hold the brake lines on the driver's side and the fuel lines on the passenger side.
You can place the saddle of the floor jack just behind that stud and lift the side of the car at one time. Be careful to not touch the stud with the jack saddle. At the front, place a jack stand at its lowest setting on the rail where it turns inwards behind the front wheel and under the battery. At the rear, place another stand (also at its lowest setting) at the corner of the rail in front of the rear wheel where you see some squares formed by the rail.
Go to the other side of the car and raise it up. Place the stands in the same locations in the front and back. If you need to get the car higher, repeat the process, and raise the height of the jack stands as needed.
This process takes me all of 5 minutes to get my 87 entirely off the ground.
