Targa interchangeability?

I seem to recall reading that the early C4 tops fit the late C4's with a hardware change, is that right?

The tops are all the same size, the mounting hardware changed:

84 - early 86, late 86 - 88, 89 - 96.

Some vendors sell kits to change the hardware.

Its too bad the hardware isnt the same for all years, it would make finding a top a lot easier.
