Haynes instructs you to do it from the top, at the filler. They illustrate how one can pull it through that rectangular area. I wanted to know if anyone has done this already. I have to make sure I can pull it from top if I am going to work on it while at school, because I have no way of jacking the car up, pulling the fuel tank down, etc.
Im prepared to pull it from above if possible. Any other hints as well?
I done it two days ago As the book says:
Lift fuel flap.
Unscrew 4 torx screws and lift of the rectangle filler flap(with badge on it).
Unscrew fuel cap and pull out rectangle rubber dodad.
Unscrew hoseclamps and pull hoses.
Disconnect three pin elec connector.
Undo 9 bolts(10mm head).
Then pull out the complete unit and replace the pump and filter.......make sure you install a new filter or you may get to change pumps again next week as well :cry
Drain all the fuel(do not reuse), and if your a skinny lad you should be able to get your arm in there with a rag and soak up the rest of the fuel.
Now vacumn it out and pop the pump/sender unit back in, pop your bolts in with 9 new O-rings(6mm or1/4") and your done.
Shouldn't take you any longer than about 20 minutes to get it out if that. I did it last month. I did drain any fuel or anything else, I just pulled out the unit, changed the pump and put it back in.
I did this last night too. Well, actually I removed it and re-installed the same pump. I was having intermittent fuel pressure drops, onlye when turning left and only when over 1/2 tank of gas. I figured something had to be loose in the fuel pump area.
What I found was the ground wire from the pump that connects to the middle of the supply line was loose at the connector. The wire from the pump is stiff, and would keep the connectors touching, except when a hard left was made, and the fuel would slosh and move the wire. Instant loss of pressure. Then the fuel would slosh back, and it would touch again. Normal pressure again.
Just recently removed the complete sender unit....had to swap our the fuel sending unit...was always showing 'full'... :yesnod:...tried one of the
ideas found here on CF but it didn't work for me..:( ... at least it was easier than changing the brake booster... :cuss .... :flag
