So I'm coming home after driiving 100 miles in the rain and crossing the Miss. river bridge down here in La. and this white C5 is about 3 cars ahead of me as we reach the main span across the river and the pavement turns to black top asphalt. We are all doing 5-10 under the speed limit and he gets impatient and pulls out to pass a p/u truck.
As he fishtales to the right I see whats about to happen and slow down and get ready to try to pick a spot to be safe.
He fish tales back to the left and does a complete 360 in mid span, in traffic, misses both side barriers and other vehicules and ends up right back in the right lane and just keeps on going. He slows down of course. I'm sure he had a mess to clean up un the front seat.
As I eased buy him on the down ramp I passed him and I was only doing 50 in a 70 zone.
Couldn't see him cuss his windows were heavy tinted.
Very scary site. Thought I was going to part of it.....whew

Ahhh....the joys of run flat tires. Run Flats=NO wet traction.
First thing I did when I bought my C5...got rid of those POS tires, and put some good regular tires on it.
First time in the rain in my old formula that happened to me. except i brought it back under control before it got too far. I felt pretty badass especially since i was holding a Big gulp drink in on hand.
Well there are a lot of variables that couldn't have been commented on. Like what the state of his tires were in. Obviously well worn tires certainly would not provide the necessary traction. All these systems; active handling, ABS, etc. are based on having traction. Without it no system will assist the driver. Also it was raining. The GY F1 EMT tire has a very poor rating on wet roads. It really is a dry pavement tire.
Also when the guy pulled out to pass, did he hit it hard? Because there is a lot of torque behind these machines. The original post didn't say whether or not the brake lights came on, and one of the primary things with regards to active handling is never never touch the brakes use the throttle to power out of the situation or just stay clear of the brake and throttle and steer it. Let the system do it's job. With this much power when it gets free the back end will want to come around to the front on you. No different than a C4 will do.
In general, I'd say the guy was very lucky. Probably operator error for the most part. The issue seems have turned on the GY F1 EMTs. Of course this assumes that C5 had the original or replacement GY F1 EMTs. Changing to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP which have a more superior rating on wet roads hence the A/S (all season) rating might have made the situation entirely different. They are also lower noise and a little softer side wall with a better tread setup.
Either way from the sounds of the story I bet the C5 driver will be more careful next time and if it was his fault from poor judgement he'll remember that lesson for a little while.
