Remove the center cap, and you’ll see a “wedge” that is driven down into the shift lever. This wedge is next to impossible to just pull out. The easiest way to get this out is to grab it with a small pair of vice-grips. Then put a long screw driver or other long rod through a portion of the vice grips. This will then give you something to tap up on. It will take a few good hits to free the wedge. But once the wedge is out, you just unscrew the know.
Note: The wedge is keyed, so be sure and align it up correctly when re-installing.
