When I bought my car, the opti was gone. The car ran but really crappy. I thought at the time this was no big deal , thinking its only the distributor. Well $1,000 dollars later and I had learned a new lesson. Welcome to the Corvette World. The water leaking into it had also washed out the grease in the opti bearing which fell out in pieces. Best of luck to you. Earl.
But you know what? I did power-wash my '94 a couple of weeks ago. I immediately noticed an ignition stumble. It doesn't happen all the time, once in a while accelerating from a stop or just revving the engine in park. Sometimes it is severe. I only had the vette a week and was not familiar with the Opti-spark dist. Iv'e always had the standard Chevy distributors all my life until now.
Is there any hope it will dry out? Or am I screwed?
This is what the inside of my Optispark looked like at 55,000 miles. The car had been parked for some time but just shows what can happen inside one of those units.
thanks
There at walmart, rite aid, can't remember the name, looks like a big coffee pot with a nose... if you can picture that...around $50, then simple green, 00 & 000 steel wool, rags and time... I don't have an opti but i've always done it this way, and seems to work best - without breaking things.
You'll have to read the directions on the bottle of Simple Green, but I think that you are supposed to cut it with water to a 50/50 concentration. Has anybody tried using a commercial degreaser?
I have a 1990 Vette and I used a pressure cleaner on the engine and had no problems. I was very carefull about where I directed the nozzle.
Yes, but truly, you don't have an Optispark LT engine. Being careful goes with any engine washing, but it becomes "difficult" with the Opti. And not advisable.
